For the vast majority of chemical companies, the critical “survival mode” has been organized very quickly and effectively. Pre-occupying question is now how, and when, to get back to a new kind of normal.
Chemical companies will most likely be frontrunners due to the criticality and systemic relevance of chemical production within the global supply chain. However, given the complexity and strong inter-connection of the chemical supply chain, the return to normal will take most likely several months.
What is to be expected?
The following key developments can be considered:
- Producers and suppliers of chemicals will have to balance their risks on the demand and supply side versus an increase of inventories
- Pressure on prices is to be expected. Product pricing will be key and industry players need to further develop their product costing instruments
- Identifying, mitigating and eliminating risks along the global supply chain will receive even more attention in the future
