Three dimensions of sustainable development

To contribute toward a sustainable, climate-neutral, just and healthy society, Horváth engages in various projects in line with the United Nations’ sustainability goals and the Paris Agreement on climate and emissions.

Since 2021, we have joined the United Nations Global Compact, the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative. With our signature, we are committed to the ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and the fight against corruption and thus set a further sign for our own sustainable management and action.

In 2023, we were awarded with the silver medal for our sustainability activities by the independent international rating agency EcoVadis. This places us among the top 25 percent of companies assessed by EcoVadis in general and among the top 9 percent within our industry.

Our understanding of sustainability also includes the implementation of further environmental, economic and social goals, which is why we are continuously expanding our commitment in these areas. Read more in our latest sustainability report.

Sustainable environmental commitment: Horváth is climate-neutral

Horváth has been climate-neutral in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standard since 2020. This takes into account all direct and indirect emissions that we generate as a result of our business activities. To ensure our climate-neutrality, we have set ourselves ambitious targets and implemented measures that span the areas of green mobility, green building and green consumption. With these principles guiding us, we want to continuously refine our activity and reduce our carbon emissions.

  • Green mobility: In the area of mobility, we promote the use of low-emissions travel options, for example by extending the use of rail travel even further, offering work bicycles for commuting, and with our Green Car Policy which subsidizes the switch to electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as wallbox installation for at-home charging.
  • Green building: Our offices are not only modern but also sustainably operated. We already use 100% green electricity in our offices in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
  • Green consumption: Our actions follow the principle of “reduce, reuse and recycle”. One example of this is in our collaboration with the company AfB (Arbeit für Menschen mit Behinderung, a non-profit organization which specifically employs people with disabilities, as well as pursuing other socially positive objectives), which enables our old IT equipment to be recycled and reused. But we also pay attention to the little things in our offices, for example using water dispensers instead of drinks bottles, and offering an abundant selection of regional fruit.

Investment in certified carbon-offsetting projects

We have compiled our greenhouse gas balance sheet in accordance with the standards of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and have been climate-neutral since 2020. For all emissions that we are unable to avoid generating, we balance our output with support for certified climate protection projects. In 2021, it was the "Clean Energy in India and Additional Regional Commitment" project, and the year before, the "Clean Water in Cambodia" project. When selecting our carbon-offsetting projects, we take environmental and social aspects into account as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainable social commitment

Social justice is important to us. Horváth enacts its responsibility to society through financial support as well as active cooperation in the form of pro bono projects in which we can achieve concrete improvement based on our core expertise. In doing this, we seek to sustainably improve our fellow human beings’ chances to have an independent future and self-determined life. In our social commitment we focus particularly on the areas of health, education and culture.
